Hyperopia (sometimes called hypermetropia) is a refractive error that allows you to see clearly in the distance, but not very well up close.
You may be experiencing hyperopia if you have any of these symptoms:
What is hyperopia?
Hyperopia is caused by either the eye being a little shorter than it should be, or the cornea (the clear window over the front of the eye) being flatter than it should be. In either case, light lands on the retina before it has come to a sharp point of focus, causing a blurry image on the retina.
How to correct for hyperopia?
Glasses will help with the vision and symptoms of hyperopia. Contact lenses can be worn as well.
Why does my child have hyperopia?
Many children are farsighted from birth, and for a percentage of them their hyperopia subsides as they mature.
Far sighted vs short sighted
An easy way to remember the difference between short-sightedness and far-sightedness is to remember that each condition describes where your GOOD vision is.
